Based on a series of true stories posted by Ho-sik Kim on the Internet describing his relationship with his girlfriend. These were later transformed into a best-selling book and the movie follows the book closely. It describes the meeting of Kyun-woo (Cha) and an unnamed girl. Kyun-woo is shamed into assisting the girl because the other passengers mistakenly think she is his girlfriend. “Sympathy for Lady Vengenace” is a free-standing followup to “Sympathy for Mr. Vengenace” and “Oldboy”. Though they are said to be sequals, the three movies share othing but the theme of revenge.

Charlize Theron is set to both produce the remake, and star as Lady Vengenace herself,  Lee Geum-ja.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Alan Rickman, Sasha Baron Cohen, Jamie Campbell Bower, Timothy Spall and Ed Sanders

Yet another Johnny Depp/ Tim Burton collaboration

I had not seen the stage production of Sweeney Todd before seeing this, and thus, I didn’t realy know what to expect. All I knew was that it was a muscal about a baber seeking revenge and killing alot of people, and that it had some of my all time favorite actors in it.

The story starts with Johnny Depps character, Benjamin Barker, being wrongly imprisoned by the jelous Judge Turpin( Alan Rickman). 15 years later, I believe it was, Barker finaly gains his freedom, and returns to his old home on Fleet Street as Sweeney Todd, finding that his wife is dead, and his daughter under the guardianship of Judge Turpin. He teams up with mrs. Lovett, who own a pie-shop underneath his barber-shop,and together they kill several people and hide their victims quite gruesomly.

Depps acting was, as usual, exelent, with all the strangeness he usualy puts into a part. He also has quite a good singing voice, very raw and edgy, just right in my opinion,

Alan Rickman as Turpin was briliant as well, even though I kept expecting him to sweep into the room in the batlike shape of Severus Snape

Helena Bonham Carter, like the rest put her mark on the movie, and one of my favorite parts is where she dreams about moving and marrying Todd. Her voice is quite good as well.

Sasha Baron Cohen, also known as Borat, plays one of Todds rivals, and as usual looks both funny and develops his character supremely.

The mood of the move is quite gloomy, dark and exagurated, and has a very Burton-esque feel to it(naturaly, as he is the director). The special effects, in particular the blood, is very over-the top, which suits the general feel of the movie.

The soundtrack was amazing, in my opionion. the highlight for me was Joanna, I think the song was called. (I don’t have the soundtrack or the tracklisting at the moment..) and The Depp/Bonham Carter duet when they decide what to do with the bodies of Todds victims.

All in all, I enjoyed Sweeney Todd very much, and I’m definitly buying the DVD when it comes out.
